Currently we don't have any group support for contacts. I believe there is already a feature request for this in the tracker. After the next release I will see what I can do.

Hastymail is fast and would be a very good client for us if contact groups were included. Any idea when this might be available?

I started looking at this last night. It is going to take a bit of work to get group functionality into the system. I will be offline most of the upcoming week for the Thanksgiving holiday, then plan on getting RC8 out the door hopefully around this time next week. After that I will try to get a group feature in place (so maybe 2 weeks from now it could be done). If I have more time this week I will keep working on it and if it gets done sooner than I expect I will let you know.

It took a bit longer than I thought but preliminary contact group support is in SVN. There is a group management page (that could use some work) accessed from a link on the upper right of the contacts page. Groups appear in the contacts dialog and can be auto-completed in the compose form with the auto-complete plugin.
